The Times reporter Tom Allnutt has said that he expects Giovani Lo Celso to return to La Liga in the summer, revealing that quite a few Spanish clubs remain keen on the Tottenham man.
Ange Postecoglou decided to keep Lo Celso at the club last summer after the Argentine excelled in pre-season and that proved to be the right decision.
The 27-year-old stepped up in a major way a couple of months ago and impressed when Spurs were going through an injury crisis, demonstrating that he has the attributes to thrive in Postecoglou’s system.
However, as expected, minutes have dried up for the former Real Betis man since James Maddison has returned to action, with the midfielder having had to be content with a few cameos as a substitute.
The fact that Spurs are not in Europe and have been knocked out early from the cup competitions has not helped Lo Celso’s cause, with the Argentina international looking unlikely to get opportunities unless there are a couple of injuries.

Lo Celso is likely to move back to La Liga
Alnutt believes that the midfielder will swap Spurs for a La Liga club at the end of the season, suggesting that the Lilywhites could sanction a loan with an obligation to buy.
When asked about Lo Celso, the journalist told The Tottenham Way Podcast: “He still has a market in Spain, I think there are clubs that would love to have him. It wouldn’t surprise me if it was a loan with an obligation to buy. It is a shame because I like Lo Celso, but I suspect it will be the end this summer.”

Lo Celso’s current deal at Spurs runs out in 2025 and there has not been any information about the club potentially having the option to extend it. The North London side would thus have to look at a direct permanent sale next summer rather than an initial loan.
