Journalist expects Spurs to face plenty of competition for 23-year-old PL star

Journalist Ben Jacobs has said that several clubs across the Premier League are monitoring the situation of Tottenham target Conor Gallagher ahead of January.

It seemed like Spurs had missed out on their chance to land Gallagher last summer, with the midfielder establishing himself as a key part of Mauricio Pochettino’s set-up this season.

However, despite that development, it was reported by The Daily Mail that many at the West London club are willing to sell the 23-year-old in January for the right offer.

The outlet claimed that with the England international not being close to agreeing on a new deal at Stamford Bridge, some among the Chelsea hierarchy believe next month would be the right time to cash in on the player.

This was also backed up last week by talkSPORT, who said that the Blues will use the funds from Gallagher’s sale to sign a top-quality centre-forward.

The publication asserted that Spurs are alert to the situation and are ready to pounce as soon as the player is put on the shop window.

Increased competition for Conor Gallagher

Jones has now revealed that is not just Ange Postecoglou’s men who are monitoring Gallagher but the player has also been scouted by the likes of Newcastle United, West Ham and Everton recently.

When asked about the speculation over the Chelsea midfielder’s future, the journalist told GiveMeSport: “Lavia is coming back from injury and will play his first Chelsea minutes, and there are plenty of other midfielders.

“For the right offer, Chelsea’s hierarchy would be prepared to sell. But Gallagher has had this speculation from the beginning of the season, even in January 2023.

“He’s constantly had this speculation that he’s on the market and had interest and offers, even though Tottenham didn’t choose to move at the back end of the last window.

“Everton, Newcastle and other clubs have scouted or enquired at different levels. West Ham are another one. So, lots of clubs have looked at Gallagher. He’s always been there in the market as somebody that might go, which remains true.”

Tottenham would have not expected to have a free run at Gallagher. However, the North London club will fancy their chances of beating the other suitors to the 23-year-old.

Not only would they offer the midfielder a chance to remain in the capital city but Postecoglou should also be able to make a persuasive case to the midfielder on how well he would fit into Spurs’ system.
