Journalist expects Tottenham to permanently offload 23-year-old this summer

Dean Jones believes that Tottenham Hotspur will cash in on Bryan Gil next summer in order to make room for other attacking additions.

Gil has never quite managed to get a run in the Tottenham side since signing for the club two and a half years ago, having always remained in the periphery under Nuno Espirito Santo, Antonio Conte and now Ange Postecoglou.

Many fans would have perhaps expected the Spaniard to leave the club on loan last month (which would have been his third temporary move since signing for the club) but the winger stayed put at Hotspur Way.

Ange Postecoglou insisted two weeks ago that he is happy with the way the 23-year-old has applied himself in training and insisted that he could have a part to play for Spurs over the coming months (Football.London).

However, with key players now back fit for Tottenham, it is difficult to see how the Spain international is going to get a chance to impress, especially since the Lilywhites are not in any cup competitions.

Bryan Gil

Bryan Gil is expected to be sold by Spurs this summer

Jones believes that the writing is on the wall for Gil as Spurs are already looking at several wingers ahead of the summer transfer window.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “Bryan Gil has got a lot to prove if he is going to have a future beyond this season at Tottenham. I, personally, can’t see it for him.

“He is the one to really look at in terms of the impact he will have at Tottenham because I think Bryan Gil’s departure is needed to make way for another exciting attacker to come in.

“They have been linked with Raphinha this week, and I know that they have been looking at players like Nico Williams at Athletic Bilbao as well. They’ve been linked with a couple of other players, too.

“I feel like he will be moved on at this stage because he has certainly had opportunities to prove himself up until now, but he just hasn’t quite cut it.”

I suspect Gil himself will ask to leave at the end of the season in order to get regular game time. While the 23-year-old might now feel at home at Hotspur Way, given the big Spanish-speaking contingent at the club, he will want to move on for the sake of his career.
