It seems Spurs will not get a transfer fee from Eric Dier’s move to Bayern Munich at this stage, but could see that change depending on his future performances.
It was common knowledge that Eric Dier‘s future lay away from Tottenham Hotspur, and that the player would either leave in January, or wait until his contract expired in the summer.
The Spurs man has fallen down the pecking order since Ange Postecoglou‘s arrival at the club. However, no one expected Dier to get a move to Bayern Munich of all places.
After missing out on Radu Dragusin to Spurs, Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel turned to Dier as he looks to add defensive cover to his squad. Tuchel recently explained to Buli News that Dier’s versatility was a key factor in Bayern making the approach.
Bayern will pay nothing up front for Eric Dier
Fabrizio Romano previously claimed a fee of €4m (£3.4m) would be involved in the deal, but the latest from Florian Plettenberg suggests otherwise.
He tweeted: “Exclusive details on Dier to FC Bayern. Contract: 6 months until the end of the season plus one-year option until 2025. Transfer fee: €0. Bayern pays for matches and achievements after a specified period. The total amount should not exceed €3-3.5m.”
That means Spurs can expect between £2.58m and £3.01m for Dier, depending on how he performs for his new club.
This was reinforced by Tottenham’s announcement, with the Lilywhites stating that Dier had only joined Bayern Munich on loan with an option to buy, despite the centre-back’s Spurs contract being up in the summer.
The Daily Mail report that the fee Bayern owe Tottenham will be dependent on the number of appearances Eric Dier makes, and could rise to £2.5m, plus the option-to-buy.

We wish Eric Dier all the best in his new adventure, and appreciate all the effort he has put in for Spurs over the last decade. It’s a great opportunity for him now, and hopefully, he can grab it with both hands.
