Journalist explains how much Spurs-linked Denzel Dumfries may cost after WC

If Tottenham Hotspur want to sign Inter Milan wing-back Denzel Dumfries, it could now cost them at least £50 million thanks to his impressive World Cup performances, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke for GiveMeSport.

Dumfries signed for Inter Milan from PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 2021 and has established himself as one of the most accomplished wing-backs in Europe since.

The 26-year-old is having a great season so far, with two goals and three assists in 20 games for the Italian side before the international break for the World Cup (Transfermarkt).

It’s at the World Cup in Qatar where Dumfries has caught the eye though. Solid performances for the Netherlands in the group stages certainly got people talking, but it was in the knockout victory over USA where Dumfries really shone, with a goal and two assists in a 3-1 win (Transfermarkt).

In recent weeks, it has been reported that London rivals Spurs and Chelsea were battling it out to acquire the services of Dumfries (TuttoSport). It was also suggested Inter would be willing to cash in on their man (CalcioMercato).

Just days ago, Rudy Galetti suggested Inter would be looking for a fee of around €30 million (£25.8 million) for Dumfries, but that fee has ballooned since according to O’Rourke.

He told GiveMeSport: “Denzel Dumfries has been outstanding at the World Cup for the Netherlands, and I think his price tag’s just gone up and up. So it’s going to be hard for Tottenham to strike a deal with Inter Milan this January to sign Dumfries, who’s probably going to be at least £50 million.”

Denzel Dumfries had a fantastic tournament for the Netherlands, looking fairly impressive going forward and competent enough at the back. With the amount of hype surrounding him now, though, any transfer fee would be inflated and I think we would be better off focusing on signing Pedro Porro from Sporting Lisbon instead.
