Journalist explains what Daniel Levy told him about Pochettino return

Journalist James Olley has shared with the ESPN YouTube channel what Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy talked to him a few years ago about the chances of Mauricio Pochettino returning to the club.

Pochettino was dismissed as Tottenham manager in November 2019, just six months after guiding the club to the Champions League final.

The Argentine remains one of the most popular managers Spurs have had in recent years.

He since moved on to PSG, but his time in France didn’t quite work out and Pochettino was sacked last summer.

Pochettino has long been linked with a return to Spurs and it is thought the 51-year-old is keen to go back to his former club should a position become available (talkSPORT).

That may happen sooner rather than later, it seems. Antonio Conte delivered an explosive press conference last weekend (Football.London) where he criticised the Tottenham players and owners.

It is now expected that the Italian will leave his position or be sacked by the end of the week, with coach Ryan Mason set to take over as caretaker manager until the end of the season (Telegraph).

Whether Spurs do arrange a reunion with Pochettino remains to be seen, but Olley recalled a previous interview with Levy in which it was suggested the former manager would be welcome back in North London.

Olley said: “Mauricio Pochettino – a lot of the fans would love to see that.

“I did interview Daniel Levy a few years ago and he told me then that he would be open to him returning one day.

“Take that at face value or with a massive pinch of salt, it’s Daniel Levy.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I see no reason why Pochettino wouldn’t be welcome back at Tottenham, and it would certainly make a lot of fans happy.

I personally loved the Pochettino era at the club, however, I am of the opinion that we should be looking to move forward rather than taking a step back.
