CBS Sports reporter Ben Jacobs has revealed in his column on Football Transfers that Tottenham are calm about Harry Kane’s future as the striker has been clear to the club that his preference is to sign a new deal.
There have been plenty of positive updates over the last week regarding Kane’s future, including a report from The Athletic’s David Ornstein on Monday revealing that the striker is willing to extend his current contract and Spurs are expected to begin talks with the 29-year-old at the end of this month.
Jacobs has now explained that as long as Spurs get into the top four, there ‘won’t even be a consideration’ of Kane leaving the club at the end of the season.
The journalist asserted that the England captain will only consider his future at his boyhood club if the Lilywhites fail to finish in the top four, which leads to yet another managerial change.
Jacobs states that it is not the case of Kane suddenly revealing his preference to stay but rather that the striker has been saying ‘to Tottenham for months’ that he is prepared to sign a new deal
He adds that Tottenham are ‘quite confident’ about the situation since they have got the buy-in from the player.
Spurs Web Opinion
I do not think Kane will be in a hurry to sign a new contract at Tottenham as he will want to keep his options open and wait to see what the club can achieve this season. However, should we finish outside the top four, I do not think the club will stand in his way in the summer as they did in 2020.
