Journalist explains when Spurs and Conte will hold new contract talks

Dean Jones has claimed that Tottenham and Antonio Conte will hold talks about a potential new contract over the coming weeks, with the World Cup break just around the corner.

Spurs play their final Premier League game on Saturday at home to Leeds United before many of the club’s players fly off to Qatar to take part in the World Cup tournament.

The Lilywhites are almost guaranteed to be in the top four during the break, even if they lose against Leeds United, and the club have already safely booked a spot in the Champions League Round of 16.

Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport that contract talks will take place between Conte and Spurs during the break, and the Italian will take this chance to outline exactly what he wants from the club.

This comes after Football Insider reported in October that Tottenham are expected to offer a contract worth more than £20million-a-year to Conte in order to convince him to stay.

He said: “With Conte, it’s going to be really interesting. He’s got contract talks coming up of his own in the next couple of weeks.

“I think, as part of those talks, he’s going to lay out what is needed to really kick Tottenham on and that’ll be over two transfer windows. Conte will stay another year if they back him.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

There is only one way the talks should go if they do take place over the break. It should be Conte asking for a certain number of players or money spent. Then it should be Daniel Levy saying yes. That’s all there is to it at this point.
