Journalist Fabrizio Romano offers update on Tottenham’s pursuit of Nicolo Zaniolo

Tottenham Hotspur may find it difficult to land Roma star Nicolo Zaniolo this summer if Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano is to be believed.

Zaniolo has established a fabulous reputation with his displays at the Stadio Olimpico over the last couple of seasons. The 21-year-old is not only viewed as one of Roma’s most creative players but also as one of Italy’s biggest hopes ahead ofthe Euros next summer.

Spurs were linked with a move for the silky midfielder last summer (Mirror) and it was claimed earlier this year that the Lilywhites were still keeping tabs on Zaniolo (Leggo).

Corriere della Sera reported last Sunday that Spurs were among the front runners for the Italian international’s signature ahead of the summer transfer window.

They claimed that Jose Mourinho was a fan of the Roma man and believes he has the qualities to succeed in the Premier League.

However, Romano has now taken to social media to reveal that, while Zaniolo was on Tottenham’s radar last summer, Roma now have no interest in letting him leave the club.

It does seem as if Zaniolo is a player that Tottenham’s scouts have had their eye on for a while. The 21-year-old looks as though he not only possesses the technical quality to develop into a top-class midfielder but also the mental strength. I believe he would be a good fit for a Jose Mourinho side but there is no way we are going to be in a position to afford the Roma man if he were to become available.
