Journalist gives update on Spurs-linked Houssem Aouar heading into deadline day

According to Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas, midfielder Houssem Aouar, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham all summer, is not expected to leave Lyon on transfer deadline day.

Tottenham look set to have a busy few hours before the transfer deadline slams shut at midnight.

Emerson Royal is allegedly close to joining the club while Serge Aurier is rumoured to be on his way out.

However, the speculation linking Spurs with Aouar seems to have died down over recent days after it was alleged earlier in the summer that the Lilywhites and their fierce rivals, Arsenal were both battling it out for the French international’s signature.

Fabrizio Romano even insisted last week that a late move from Spurs for Aouar should not be ruled out.

For at least just the time being, however, the 23-year-old looks set to stay at Lyon according to Thomas.

Spurs Web Opinion

There must be a reason that no top club seems to have gone for Aouar this summer despite the midfielder being available on a cut-price deal.

There is certainly no guarantee that the 23-year-old would take to the Premier League. It certainly is not a surprise that Paratici would rather pay double the fee to bring in someone like Neves or Kessie.
