Journalist has ‘always suspected’ Spurs may return for winger target in the future

Dean Jones has revealed that he has always felt Tottenham Hotspur were likely to go back in for Adama Traore at some point after missing out on the winger back in January of last year.

It was Barcelona who beat Spurs to Traore’s signature 12 months ago, with the Catalan club signing the pacy wide-man on loan.

However, the Spaniard struggled for game time at the Camp Nou and returned to Wolves in the summer, with Xavi Hernandez’s men not taking the option to make the deal permanent.

Traore made 14 appearances across all competitions for the West Midlands club in the first part of the 2022-23 campaign but his future at Molineux is up in the air, with his current contract running out next summer (Transfermarkt).

90 min claimed last week that Spurs continue to hold an interest in the 26-year-old ahead of January, with Antonio Conte said to remain a ‘big fan’ of the player.

However, the report added that the North London club are expected to face competition from Leeds United, Inter Milan and Napoli for the Wolves star.

When asked about Tottenham potentially pursuing Traore in January, Jones has now told GiveMeSport: “I’ve always suspected that they might go in for Traore again at some point.

“It’s just difficult to know right now how likely it is that it can happen in the next window, given that Wolves are undergoing so much change. They’re in a really difficult position in the league that they need to get out of quickly.”

It does not seem as if Traore is going to sign a new contract with Wolves. So, one would expect Julen Lopetegui’s men to cash in on the winger if they get a decent offer for him in January.

However, the 26-year-old does not appear to be at the top of Tottenham’s wishlist anymore for the right wing-back role, with the likes of Denzel Dumfries and Anthony Gordon being more heavily linked with the Lilywhites over recent weeks.
