Journalist has heard that former PL manager is a real ‘possibility’ for Tottenham job

According to journalist James Olley for ESPN, former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is now a real ‘possibility’ for the Tottenham Hotspur job if Antonio Conte is relieved of his duties.

Conte’s time at Tottenham appears to be coming to an end after 16 months in charge, with the fallout of his explosive press conference at the weekend (Football.London) perhaps proving to be fatal for his tenure as Spurs manager.

The Telegraph recently suggested the Italian will be removed from his position by the end of this week, with coach Ryan Mason in line to take over as caretaker manager until the end of the season.

It is thought managing director Fabio Paratici has drawn up a list of potential replacements for the 53-year-old already (Daily Mail).

Tuchel is believed to be among the names on that shortlist (The Athletic).

Tuchel is currently unemployed after losing his job at Chelsea earlier this season, and now Olley claims there’s a good chance he will take the Spurs job, if and when it becomes available.

He said: “I’ve heard that Thomas Tuchel is a possibility.

“Thomas Tuchel, I remember how he did a press conference when he was Chelsea manager talking about how he was a Tottenham fan growing up. He loved the Premier League.

“I think he would take that job if he was offered it. I suppose you can think about other things, Conte’s 343 system to some extent they built a squad around that.

“Tuchel likes to play with three at the back primarily, so there’s kind of a logical fit there. He’s good with the media.”

On the merits of appointing Tuchel, Olley concluded: “I could see Tuchel working for them.

“He’s a big enough name with Champions League pedigree that Spurs would feel like they’re getting a top manager.”

Spurs Web Opinion

As much as I hate the way we keep taking Chelsea hand-me-downs as managers, Tuchel is a top-class coach and a winner.

He would be a good fit for us, and I wouldn’t be against the decision if we went for him.
