Journalist hears ‘whispers’ that midfielder is not seen as a good fit for Postecoglou at Spurs

The Times reporter Tom Allnutt has revealed that there are doubts internally at Hotpsur Way over whether Yves Bissouma is a good fit for Tottenham’s project.

After an impressive start to the season, Bissouma’s form has fallen off a cliff since the turn of the year and the midfielder might find himself on the chopping block this summer as Ange Postecoglou plans significant changes to the squad.

The Australian admitted to Football.London on Friday that some difficult decisions have to be made this summer, confessing that some good players would have to be let go as he needs players who are better equipped to play in his system.

The Telegraph reported on the same day that one of those let go could be Bissouma, with the outlet stating that while Tottenham have not put the midfielder up for sale, they will consider any attractive offer that comes their way for the former Brighton man.

Is Yves Bissouma the right fit for Postecoglou?

Alnutt has revealed that he has heard from his sources at Hotspur Way that the Mali international is not seen as a good fit for Postecoglou, either personality-wise or in terms of his attributes.

The journalist said on The Tottenham Way Podcast: “I wouldn’t be surprised if someone like Bissouma was let go. I’ve heard a couple of whispers about Bissouma that he’s not the right fit for Ange in terms of his personality and in terms of his play.

“You see these guys at the start of the season and think they’re wonderful, but over nine months, it’s not quite right.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Bissouma is not a particularly great tactical fit for Postecoglou’s system. While the midfielder is certainly press-resistant at his best, he lacks the vision and the game awareness to make the right choices in possession.

Having said that, I would be quite surprised if he was let go by Spurs this summer as I suspect that Ange would want to keep the 27-year-old around as a squad player.
