Journalist hints 26-year-old PL defender would be a ‘dream’ signing for Spurs

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed that Leeds United centre-back Robin Koch may not excite Spurs fans but would be a dream signing for any manager this summer.

Koch has gone from strength to strength since first arriving at Elland Road from Freiburg back in 2020, with the versatile defender having been one of Leeds’ most consistent performers over the course of this season.

German news outlet Sport1 reported last week that the 27-year-old’s displays this campaign had caught the attention of both Spurs and Newcastle ahead of the summer transfer window.

The report asserted that the two Premier League clubs could battle it out for the German international’s signature and could potentially have a competition to contend with from RB Leipzig, AC Milan and Napoli, who are also alleged to have their eyes on the defender.

O’Rourke has said that while Koch is not a name that will excite Spurs fans, he would be a dream signing for the North London club, given his versatility.

When asked about the speculation linking the Leeds star with a move to Tottenham, the journalist told GiveMeSport: “I’m not sure too many Spurs fans will be too excited at the potential of signing of Robin Koch. He’s a good player and a good versatile player as well.

“He’s comfortable playing a number of positions, can play centre-half, and he can also play centre midfield, so I’m sure he’d be a dream signing for any manager considering his versatility.

“And I think he’s only going to get better, he’s a Germany international, and has proven at Leeds that he can mix it with the best in the Premier League.”

I suspect that Koch is a target that was identified for Antonio Conte’s set-up. The 26-year-old would be a much better fit in a back three than he would be in a back four.

So, it would not make sense for Tottenham to pursue the German if Conte is replaced by one of Pochettino or Enrique, who both prefer playing with four at the back.
