Journalist hints an offer from a club like Spurs could convince manager to join

Voetbal International journalist Martijn Krabbendam has revealed that Arne Slot was open to leaving Feyenoord when Leeds United came calling a few months ago, which is why he could be tempted to leave if a similar offer comes his way this summer.

Multiple outlets over the last couple of weeks have talked up the possibility of Tottenham making an approach for Slot soon.

In fact, ESPN even asserted last week that the Dutchman is a ‘serious candidate’ for the Spurs hot seat alongside Julian Nagelsmann as Daniel Levy does not want to repeat the same mistake he made in 2021 by passing up on Slot’s compatriot Erik Ten Hag.

However, 1908.nl reported a couple of days ago that Feyenoord are making an ‘ultimate attempt’ to convince their head coach to stay by offering him a ‘substantial’ salary increase.

The publication claimed that the Eredivisie club are aware of Tottenham’s ‘dormant’ interest in the 44-year-old but are determined to make him stay at De Kuip for at least one more season.

Krabbendam has now opined that while his gut instinct is that Slot will remain at Rotterdam, an exit certainly cannot be ruled out at the end of the season.

The journalist told FR12.nl: “In my gut, I say Slot will stay. He gets everything he wants.

“Van de Belt, Zerrouki, his assistant has extended his contract. And he himself is also still fixed until 2025. There is no reason to assume he would want to leave.

“But when Leeds came in winter, he was open to that. If another club like that comes from England with a lot of potential, I don’t rule out him still wanting to try.

“That is why it is so tricky; I can say now that he is staying and then three weeks later, he still leaves.”

Spurs Web Opinion

With Kompany signing a new five-year deal at Burnley, it looks increasingly likely that Slot would be the man Tottenham turn to if they are unable to convince Nagelsmann to take the job.

I suspect that the likes of Palace and West Ham would also be keeping an eye on the Dutchman.
