Journalist hints history suggests it could be a few weeks before Pedro Porro starts for Spurs

Journalist Paul Brown has warned that Tottenham fans will have to be patient with Pedro Porro as it might take the Spaniard a while to establish himself as a regular starter at the club.

Porro’s arrival on the transfer deadline day was met with relief and enthusiasm in equal parts by Spurs fans, with the North Londoners managing to get the deal over the line after prolonged negotiations with Sporting Lisbon, which had more than its fair share of hiccups.

Conte and the Spurs faithful saw first-hand what the 23-year-old could do in their two Champions League group stage games against Sporting earlier this season.

Porro’s crossing and one vs one ability seemingly make him a natural fit for Tottenham’s system, and he has reportedly created more than three times as many chances from right wing-back as Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty combined this season (talkSPORT).

Brown believes that Conte will take his time to integrate the new signing into the starting eleven as he has done with other wing-backs in the past.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “It’s never easy for a player to learn what Conte wants from them when you play his wing-back role, it’s quite a specialist position and he’s very demanding, so there’s no guarantee that Porro will hit the ground running, go straight in the team and play every week.

“It’s happened at all of Conte’s clubs where they’ve signed him wing-backs and it’s taken a good few weeks, whoever that person is, for them to get used to exactly what he wants and for Conte to trust them enough to use them, so I think Spurs fans might have to be patient with Porro.”

I do not think Conte will take as long to integrate Porro into the team as he has done with other wing-backs as the Spaniard was specifically signed because of his attributes and understanding of the role.

Having said that, there is no doubt that Emerson deserves to keep his place in the starting eleven on the back of his display against Manchester City.
