Journalist – How Spurs are expected to use Brennan Johnson vs Sheffield United

Journalist Dean Jones expects Brennan Johnson to start on the bench against Sheffield United on Saturday and to be introduced in the second half when the away side gets tired.

Tottenham will be looking to make it four wins in five when they host the Blades on Saturday in what will be just their second home game of the season.

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was buzzing when the Lilywhites turned over Manchester United last month and Ange Postecoglou will be hoping that his players can help create a similar atmosphere by making a fast start.

Spurs fans may also get their first glimpse at Brennan Johnson, who arrived at the club in a £47.5m deal on transfer deadline day.

Jones has said that he does not expect the 22-year-old to be thrown straight into the starting eleven by Postecoglou. The journalist suggested that the Australian could instead use the Wales international’s pace and directness as a weapon in the latter stage of the encounter when the visitors tire.

Brennan Johnson is expected to make the bench

When asked about Johnson potentially making his Spurs debut on Saturday, Jones told GiveMeSport: “I’ve got a feeling he might still start on the bench and be looking to make an impact later on in the game.

“I feel like because Spurs have been doing well in the format that they’ve had going, Postecoglou might be tempted to continue with that.

“And then allow Brennan Johnson to come into the game later on, have eyes on how the game is panning out, where he’s going to get the most joy, where the spaces are going to open up for him to exploit.

“And his directness too, later on in the game, when Sheffield United are tiring. I feel like that’s probably going to be the best way to use him at this stage. But it’ll be interesting. He’s got a decision to make.”

I expect Postecoglou to stick with the same front three which started against Burnley, barring any late injury concerns, as all three of Son, Solomon and Kulusevski delivered impressive performances at Turf Moor.
