Journalist makes Anthony Gordon prediction after Spurs and Chelsea interest

Journalist Paul Brown believes that rumoured Tottenham target Anthony Gordon is not going to sign a new contract with Everton.

Tottenham’s efforts to sign Gordon back in June were knocked back by Everton (Lyall Thomas) while the Toffees are also thought to have rejected a £40m offer from Chelsea for the winger (Sky Sports).

Towards the end of the summer transfer window, reports suggested that Chelsea were the favourites to snap up the Everton star, (The Times) while it was also suggested that Spurs were set to submit a formal offer of their own for the youngster (Football Insider)

However, both London clubs were unsuccessful in their pursuit of the 21-year-old, who ended up staying put at Goodison Park.

Gordon’s current contract with the Toffees runs until 2025 (transfermarkt), and Brown believes he will not sign a new deal with his boyhood club and will instead assess his options again in January.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “I don’t think you’re going to be seeing Anthony Gordon signing a new contract with Everton over the next few weeks, whatever wages they offer him.

“It looks to me like he’s going to look around and see what happens in the next window before deciding his future, which isn’t an ideal situation for Everton, but it hasn’t really seemed to have affected him on the pitch.”

Even if Gordon does not sign a new contract, I do not think Everton will consider selling him in January. However, the Merseysiders might be tempted to cash in on him next summer if they receive a lucrative offer, given that he might only have two years left on his contract by then.
