Journalist makes claim about Danny Rose’s first-team footballing prospects

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has admitted that dropping down to the Championship might be the best choice available to Danny Rose after Tottenham failed to move the defender on during the transfer window.

There was plenty of speculation over Rose’s future through the summer but the left-back ended up staying in North London.

The 30-year-old has been left out of Tottenham’s Europa League squad and was also not handed a squad number for the Premier League campaign.

The likes of Darren Bent and Michael Brown have advised Rose to remain patient until the January transfer window rather than dropping down to the Championship, with Bent suggesting that the left-back can kiss his hopes of making it back into the England squad goodbye if he drops down to the second tier of English football.

However, Gold believes that might be the best choice available to the experienced defender, although the journalist also suggested that both parties could agree to terminate his contract.

When asked by a fan if EFL clubs are interested Rose, Gold responded: “That’s the hope because Spurs couldn’t shift him during the main transfer window, which is a sad situation for a player who has given so much to the club over more than a decade.

“There was interest from Porto but it never resulted in a firm offer. Now the Championship looks to be his best choice. I can’t help but feel that Spurs would look at mutually ending his contract early.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I cannot see Rose willingly dropping down to the Championship. I believe he will remain patient for the next couple of months and hope that another Premier League side will come calling in January. The Euros next summer is probably his last chance to feature in another major tournament for England and I still believe he has a shot at making the squad given the lack of decent left-back options under Gareth Southgate’s disposal.
