Journalist makes claim about Tottenham’s rumoured Danny Ings pursuit

Tottenham Hotspur have not made an official approach for Southampton striker Danny Ings as of yet, talkSPORT’s Alex Crook has claimed.

Ings was first rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar several months ago but over recent days, it appears as if the North London club have renewed their interest in the Saints star.

The Telegraph reported on Tuesday that Spurs have made the striker, who is into the final year of his contract at St Mary’s, their number one target at the insistence of Nuno Espirito Santo.

It was claimed that the Portuguese coach wants to employ two up front next season and believes that the Saints star could play alongside Harry Kane.

The Evening Standard have since revealed that Tottenham Hotspur face an uphill battle in their efforts to sign the 28-year-old as the relationship between the two clubs was strained during the North Londoners acquisition of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

It was stated that the South Coast club were not impressed by the Lilywhites’ attempts to turn Hojbjerg’s head early in negotiations or Daniel Levy’s hardball approach.

However, if Crooks’ latest update is to be believed, Tottenham are yet to approach Southampton regarding Ings this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

After Ings’ struggles at Liverpool a few years ago, I suspect the 28-year-old will be looking for guarantees of first-team football before accepting a move. I personally think he is likely to join a club like Leicester or West Ham over Spurs if Kane stays put.
