Journalist makes confident Pochettino prediction amid Conte exit rumours

The Sun’s Martin Lipton is in no doubt that Tottenham Hotspur will turn towards Mauricio Pochettino if Antonio Conte leaves the club.

Over the last week and a half, multiple outlets (including The Daily Mail and The Evening Standard) have revealed that Pochettino and former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel are at the top of Spurs’ wishlist to replace Conte if the Italian departs the club.

Conte’s current contract at Tottenham runs until the end of the season, with Spurs having the option to extend it by one year, but it has emerged that the Italian is not likely to entertain talks about his future until the summer (Matt Law).

TuttoMercatoWeb claimed on Sunday that the Lilywhites hierarchy have already started planning for life after Conte and had even made contact with Pochettino regarding a potential return to the club.

Lipton is now the latest journalist to talk up the possibility of the Argentine returning to North London, confidently asserting that Daniel Levy will turn to the 50-year-old if Conte leaves.

He told Off The Ball: “I know what you’re going to ask me next and the answer is Mauricio Pochettino returning in the summer. I think it’s almost that if Conte goes Pochettino will be invited back in.”

There do not seem to be any other obvious candidates other than Pocehettino and Tuchel, given that Brendan Rodgers’ stock has fallen considerably over the last few months. So, all roads point to Pochettino returning to the club, unless Conte manages to turn things around soon.
