Journalist names two Brennan Johnson alternatives Spurs have identified

Lyall Thomas has revealed on the Last Word on Spurs that Tottenham Hotspur have identified Barcelona’s Ansu Fati and PSV Eindhoven’s Johan Bakayoko as possible alternatives to Brennan Johnson.

Multiple sources over the last 48 hours have reported that Spurs are keen on getting a deal for Johnson over the line before the transfer window slams shut (Telegraph).

This was backed up by Alasdair Gold, who claimed on Sunday that Ange Postecoglou has identified the Forest star as his top attacking target as the Australian values the 22-year-old’s versatility and feels he is a ‘perfect fit’ for his system.

Two other Spurs alternatives to Brennan Johnson

Thomas has now also confirmed that Spurs remain keen on Johnson, with the Lilywhites alleged to have worked on a deal for the Wales international for a while.

However, he explains that the North London club have now identified two other wide-forwards as alternatives should a deal for the Forest star not materialise.

One of them is Fati, who could be made available late in the window, given Barca’s desperation to reduce their wage bill.

The journalist explained that the Catalan giants would prefer to sell the 20-year-old permanently but would be open to a loan move as long as the Spurs (or some other club) are willing to take on the player’s full salary.

Finally, Thomas adds that Bakayoko, who has turned quite a lot of heads since breaking into PSV’s senior side last season, also remains on Tottenham’s radar.

Spurs Web Opinion

It makes sense for Tottenham to have some alternatives in place in case Forest make unreasonable demands for Johnson.

However, I am relatively confident that Spurs will get a deal for the 22-year-old over the line as Steve Cooper’s side also need the money, given their FFP issues and to fund late moves for their transfer targets.
