Journalist names two Spurs defenders who could be ‘vulnerable’ to a sale this year

Japhet Tanganga and Joe Rodon are ‘vulnerable’ to being sold by Tottenham Hotspur this summer, according to journalist Paul Gilmour.

It’s safe to say that the Spurs defence is one area which desperately needs improving this summer. Indeed, Ange Postecoglou has told the club’s board that he needs to sign new defenders this summer (90 Min).

Of course, with players hopefully set to come in, there will need to be some outgoings to make room. Postecoglou is also widely believed to be planning a number of sales to refresh his squad (Telegraph).

Former Spurs player Alan Hutton has recently claimed there were ‘question marks’ over the likes of Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez, and Ben Davies.

Hutton also suggested it may be time for Japhet Tanganga to move on (Football Insider).

Rodon and Tanganga could go this summer

It seems no defender in the Spurs squad is safe during this transfer window, as Paul Gilmour has now posited the idea that Tanganga could be on his way out, along with Joe Rodon.

Gilmour told the Last Word on Spurs podcast: “Some of the names, [Joe] Rodon and [Japhet] Tanganga, you get that feeling that they’d be vulnerable as well to a sale.

“But again, I keep going back to this point at this stage of pre-season, there will be a lot of people trying to impress and so what we don’t know yet is the emergence of great performances from somebody that Ange Postecoglou thinks, ‘Right, you can play a role in my system.'”

It is a shame as both Tanganga and Rodon are talented players who have waited patiently for their chance at Tottenham.

Neither player has ever really been given ample opportunity to show what they can do consistently, but it seems they are just not at the level required here. Unless anything changes in pre-season, I can see them both moving on in search of first-team football.
