Journalist names two Spurs stars Conte was fuming at against Southampton

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that Antonio Conte was furious at Ben Davies and Pedro Porro for failing to swap over to their natural positions after defending a corner kick against Southampton.

Conte unleashed a spectacular rant in his post-match press conference on Saturday following his side’s 3-3 draw against the Saints, accusing every single one of his players of being selfish and playing for themselves rather than the team.

The Italian also remarked that the squad lacks fight and desire to see out wins, which was a remarkable statement, given that around half of the squad was signed during the last three transfer windows while he was in charge at the club.

The Telegraph have reported this evening that Tottenham and Conte are now expected to part ways within the next week, bringing an end to the Italian’s time in charge.

Gold explained before this news broke that one of the things that angered Conte on Saturday was his wing-backs not swapping over to their natural positions.

The journalist revealed that mid-way into the first half, Porro was operating as a left wing-back and Davies on the opposite flank after defending a corner.

Since the ball had not gone out of play for a few minutes, the two players carried on in their unnatural roles while waiting for a break in play to swap over.

Eventually, Conte got furious and screamed at the Spaniard and the Welshman, with the pair only then sprinting over to their natural positions.

It can often be quite risky to swap over to your natural roles when the opposition have the ball as you run the risk of leaving yourself exposed defensively.

However, if it is the case that Davies and Porro did not swap over despite Spurs being in possession, one can understand why Conte would have been furious.
