Journalist Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport that Tottenham Hotspur want to make two signings in the January transfer window – a defender and a striker.
Antonio Conte has been at Tottenham for just over a year now, and has had two transfer windows to reshape his squad. By and large, the signings made during that time have been pretty effective.
In January 2022, Spurs signed Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur from Juventus (Sky Sports). Both players have made an incredible impact in North London and have been integral to the relative success Conte has enjoyed.
Spurs made seven signings in the summer, bringing in proven Premier League talents Richarlison, Yves Bissouma, and Fraser Forster, experienced European stars Ivan Perisic and Clement Lenglet, and youngsters Djed Spence and Destiny Udogie.
There is still room for improvement, though. Conte is believed to be keen on acquiring a new right wing-back and an attacker according to 90Min, while Fabrizio Romano previously told GiveMeSport that a centre-back and a central midfielder would be the priority.
It’s hard to know exactly where Spurs will reinforce their squad, but Dean Jones has pinpointed the areas he believes the club will look to work on in January and how Richarlison’s World Cup performance will change things.
He said: “I think a defender and forward are equally as likely to land, they need both and they want both. I do wonder how they come away from this World Cup from watching Richarlison, it has given them something to think about as they move forward.”

It’s hard to know exactly what positions the club will look to strengthen, and Fabio Paratici clearly likes to play things close to his chest when it comes to transfer activity. There are lots of areas that require work, but the key is getting the right player, so I don’t personally mind what position we reinforce as long as it’s with genuine, ready-made quality.
