Journalist offers update on Tottenham’s interest in Coutinho

There have been many contradictory reports regarding Tottenham’s interest in Philippe Coutinho over the past few weeks.

Coutinho has had a relatively successful season on loan at Bayern but with the Bundesliga giants reportedly unwilling to make the deal permanent in the summer, Spurs are said to be battling it out with Chelsea to sign the former Liverpool man (Mirror).

However, Spanish publication Sport (via Sport Witness) have dashed Tottenham’s hopes of signing the Brazilian by suggesting earlier this week that a move to Stamford Bridge was much more likely for the Barcelona star.

The report claimed the Blues are already locked in negotiations with the Catalan giants for the 27-year-old.

Italian journalist Nicolo Schira has now given Spurs fans hope by revealing that the North Londoners are still in the race for Coutinho.

In fact, he suggests that the Lilywhites have already spoken to the midfielder’s agent Kia Joorabchian and are aware that the Barcelona star would like to return to the Premier League.

Spurs Web Opinion

While I can understand why Pochettino wanted Coutinho, he just doesn’t strike me as a Jose Mourinho type of signing and for that reason, I cannot see the club pushing too hard to get him. While I do believe he would be an ideal replacement for Christian Eriksen, I think he is more likely to end up at Chelsea.
