Journalist plays down chances of Spurs takeover despite recent rumours

According to Ben Jacobs, Sheikh Jassim is not considering a takeover of Tottenham Hotspur, despite pulling out of the race to buy a stake in Manchester United.

The ENIC group has been in control of Tottenham Hotspur for over 20 years now, but the last few years have not exactly been positive under its stewardship.

A lack of ambition from the owners, along with poor managerial appointments and disappointing achievements on the pitch have left the Spurs fanbase very unhappy, and they have not been afraid to vocalise this discontent.

Things are looking up now, under new manager Ange Postecoglou. The Lilywhites are at the top of the Premier League after eight games, and the heat appears to have subsided ever so slightly on Daniel Levy and the rest of the board.

Nevertheless, Levy has commented recently on his valuation of the club, and discussed the fact that Qatari investors had held conversations about buying a share in Tottenham (The Times).

Sheikh Jassim will not try and buy Spurs

Now, with Sheikh Jassim no longer in the running to purchase Manchester United as of today (Mirror), there have been murmurs of a possible avenue for investment at Spurs, but Ben Jacobs insists that is not the case.

He said: “Sheikh Jassim is not currently considering another club. Nine Two Foundation haven’t held discussions on buying Spurs or Inter.

“Meanwhile, QSI did hold exploratory talks with Spurs in January over minority investment. Nothing progressed and any deal unlikely to be revived.”

If he’s not interested in taking over, then that’s fine. It’s hard to see rival clubs getting the kind of investment they do, but it only leads to people saying you’ve bought success anyway. I’d rather us battle through with the owners we’ve got than get into a morally murky situation.
