Journalist predicts 22-year-old may have ‘possibly’ played final game for Spurs

Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge believes Japhet Tanganga may have played his last game for Tottenham.

Tanganga has endured a difficult campaign this season despite starting proceedings with a regular spot in the starting line-up under Nuno Espirito Santo.

However, he has not featured for Spurs since the Premier League defeat to Chelsea in January, where he picked up a knee injury.

Spurs confirmed the defender underwent surgery last week which has now curtailed his season, with his recovery expected to take him up to the pre-season period.

Tanganga was also the subject of transfer speculation during the winter before his injury, with AC Milan named as a potential suitor (Sky Sports).

Although a move failed to materialise, Bridge is fearing the worst for the future of the England U21 international and believes an exit could well be on the cards if he ends up being surplus to requirements.

Asked whether Tanganga could have played his last game for Spurs, he told GiveMeSport: “Possibly. The only thing that could save him is his versatility and the fact he’s homegrown.

“Tottenham are edging on having to be a bit careful with homegrown players, although I know Tanganga didn’t exactly cover himself in glory in January.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It has been a tough season for Tanganga and he really struggled during that period when the club’s results fell off a cliff. His displays have not been convincing at all so that will stick in the mind of those at the club, but a proper evaluation will need to be taken when he returns from injury.
