Journalist predicts 23-year-old could emerge as Spurs’ top centre-back target

Transfer expert Dean Jones has claimed there is a ‘good chance’ that Tottenham Hotspur will prioritise a move for Inter Milan centre-back Alessandro Bastoni this summer.

The Athletic reported last week that signing a left-sided centre-back to compete with Ben Davies is Tottenham’s priority this summer. The report named Bastoni as one of four names on top of Antonio Conte’s wishlist for that role.

Some reports have claimed that Inter could be open to cashing in on the 23-year-old this summer in order to fund moves for their transfer targets (TuttoSport).

Calciomercato claimed last week that the Italy international is ‘strongly wanted’ by Conte and the North London club are not put off by the Nerrauzri’s €45m (£37.8m) valuation of the centre-back, who has two years left to run on his contract (Transfermarkt).

Jones believes Spurs could push ahead with a move for the Inter star once the transfer window opens.

When asked about Tottenham’s interest in the centre-back, the journalist told GiveMeSport: “I think there’s a good chance that Bastoni will emerge as the guy.

“At this stage, I keep being told there is no order at the moment, that they’ll see at the end of the season where they’re at and they’ll go from there.

“They have a shortlist, but it’s not in any sort of ranking, as it stands.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I suspect Bastoni would be Conte’s preferred choice for the left centre-back role. However, we might not be able to attract players of the 23-year-old’s quality unless we get into the Champions League. Whether or not we manage to finish fourth could have a huge bearing on our targets and the money the club have available to spend.
