Journalist predicts 27-year-old target would not turn down Spurs move

TalkSPORT journalist Alex Crook has predicted that Brentford goalkeeper David Raya would not be able to turn down a move to Tottenham if the North London club came calling for him next summer.

Over the last couple of months, multiple outlets have reported that Spurs are expected to be in the market for Hugo Lloris’ successor next summer (Evening Standard and Football.London).

The Daily Mail reported on Sunday evening that some at Spurs had hoped that Lloris would be able to remain at the club until his current contract runs out in 2024.

However, following his latest mistake in the North London derby, it was asserted that the Lilywhites are set to ‘accelerate’ their pursuit of a number one.

The report added that Antonio Conte’s men are looking for a goalkeeper who is good with the ball at his feet and can make good decisions under pressure, with Raya named as one of the names on the club’s wishlist.

Crook believes that the Spaniard would not be able to turn down a chance to move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the summer.

When asked about Spurs’ rumoured interest in Raya, the journalist told GiveMeSport: “With the greatest respect in the world to Brentford, I’m sure if he could make the step up to Spurs he’d grab it with both gloves. Again, I think probably one to keep an eye on in the summer, as opposed to now.”

I expect Spurs to look within the Premier League for Lloris’ replacement in the summer. Raya will likely be one of the names on the club’s wishlist, along with the likes of Jordan Pickford, Robert Sanchez and Illan Meslier, all of whom appear ready to make a step up to a top-six club.
