Journalist predicts player will snub Spurs in favour of move to Chelsea

Journalist Dean Jones expects Chelsea to beat Tottenham to the signature of RB Leipzig centre-back Josko Gvardiol.

Both Tottenham (Football.London) and Chelsea (Fabrizio Romano) were credited with an interest in Gvardiol during the summer transfer window but the defender ended up staying at RB Leipzig and even signed a contract extension with the Bundesliga club.

Calciomercato.it reported last month that despite Chelsea and Spurs failing with their efforts to sign the Croat in the summer, both London clubs continue to have an eye on the centre-back ahead of the January transfer window.

However, journalist Simon Phillips told GiveMeSport a couple of weeks ago that Graham Potter’s men wish to complete a double deal for Gvardiol and Christopher Nkunku and suggested that the 20-year-old defender is open to joining Chelsea.

Jones now claims that he has heard the Leipzig star is unlikely to choose Spurs over Chelsea even if the North London club show interest in his services.

When asked about Tottenham’s pursuit of Gvardiol, he told GiveMeSport: “They might be looking into it, but I’m told it’s unlikely he would choose Spurs over Chelsea, even if they did begin to look at it as a possibility of happening.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Despite reports to the contrary in the summer, I suspect Bastoni remains Tottenham’s number one target over Gvardiol, given that Conte has worked closely with the Italian in the past. I do not see Spurs getting involved in a bidding war with Chelsea for the Leipzig star.
