Journalist predicts potential January loan offers for 22-year-old Spurs man

Dean Jones has suggested that clubs could make loan enquiries for Djed Spence in January if the right-back does not get much game time at Tottenham in the next couple of months.

Spence has just seen a few minutes of action since signing for Spurs in the summer, coming on as a late substitute in the club’s 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest last month.

Over recent weeks, Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici have both talked about the need to be patient with the former Middlesbrough man.

The Spurs head coach has praised the England Under-21 international for his attitude in training since arriving at the club but he admitted that the youngster requires time to adapt to the demands of top-flight football (Football.London).

Paratici echoed the same sentiment to Spurs TV last week, with the Spurs managing director of football explaining that Spence cannot be thrown straight in at the deep end after arriving from the Championship.

Jones has now predicted that the right-back might have to prove his worth to Conte in the Carabao Cup if he is to force himself into the Tottenham team.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “If Djed Spence is going to break through, he’s got to earn it.

“It might be the Carabao Cup is his platform but, ultimately, I think this season’s going to be a tough one for him to make a name for himself in that Tottenham team.

“It might even be that he has loan enquiries when we get to January.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think there is any chance that Spurs will loan out Spence in January.

Spence not only needs to get used to Conte’s system like Tottenham’s other summer signings but he also needs to adapt to the step up in quality to the Premier League.

I am not at all concerned about the 22-year-old’s lack of game time so far and I believe we will see a lot more of him in the second half of the season.
