Journalist predicts Spurs could still sell player who started last two games – Only if a ‘good bid’ arrives

The Sun’s Tom Barclay has predicted that Tottenham could be open to selling Emerson Royal despite the Brazilian starting both of the club’s first two Premier League games of the season.

Spurs have strengthened at right wing-back with the addition of Djed Spence from Middlesbrough this summer.

Football.London reported earlier in the summer that the 21-year-old was expected to compete with Matt Doherty for a place in Tottenham’s starting eleven this season.

Reports over the past couple of months have linked Emerson with moves to the likes of Atletico Madrid (Sky Sports), AS Roma (Express) and Juventus (CMW) this summer.

However, it was the former Real Betis man who was given the nod to start Tottenham’s first two games of the season, although that may have been down to Doherty’s fitness.

Antonio Conte hinted a couple of weeks ago that the Republic of Ireland international has not recovered fully recovered from the knee injury he sustained back in April (Football.London).

Barclay believes Emerson is the one player from Tottenham’s starting lineup at Stamford Bridge that the North London club might be open to selling before the transfer window closes if they receive a suitable offer.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “You’d think if Tottenham get a good bid for Emerson Royal, they might let him go, but there’s no guarantee and for the rest of the team, no.

“They’re all trying to hang onto their first team spots, and I don’t think Spurs will be letting any of them go.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I suspect that one of the reasons Spurs have not been in a hurry to sell Emerson is that Conte is still assessing if Spence is of the required quality. I would not be completely surprised if Tottenham decide to hang on to the Brazilian and reassess the situation in January.
