Charlie Eccleshare has revealed that while Tottenham do hold an interest in Everton winger Anthony Gordon, the North London club do not want him enough to pay a big fee to sign him from Goodison Park this summer.

Tottenham officially confirmed the signing of Richarlison from Everton on Friday, with the Brazilian becoming the club’s fourth signing of the summer.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold revealed earlier this week that during negotiations over Richarlison, Spurs had also expressed an interest in Gordon.

The journalist revealed that although the 21-year-old was keen on a move to Tottenham, he would not push for a move away from his boyhood club.

Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas subsequently revealed that Spurs cooled their interest in the winger after Everton informed the Lilywhites that he was not for sale.

Eccleshare has now explained that Frank Lampard sees Gordon as a key part of his plans and that the Toffees are unlikely to sell the youngster after cashing in on Richarlison.

The journalist told the Last Word on Spurs YouTube channel regarding Tottenham’s pursuit of Gordon: “I think that one will be a lot harder to do. Spurs like him and they have made enquiries about him, but he is the guy at Everton, he’s the youngster coming through that they’re pinning their hopes on, he’s a guy Lampard wants to build the team around.

“It would take a massive, massive offer, and I’m not sure they want him enough to do that just yet.

“Also, I think Everton need to make one big sale and that will be Richarlison, I don’t think they’ll sell Gordon. He is a player Spurs like and I think he’s a very interesting player.”

Gordon was never going to be a realistic target for Spurs this summer. Even if Spurs had made an offer for the 21-year-old that Everton deemed acceptable, the Goodison Park hierarchy would have feared the backlash that the move would have generated from the Everton faithful.
