Journalist predicts Spurs will release 27-year-old this summer with one year left on his contract

The Athletic’s James Maw believes that Tottenham Hotspur will release Tanguy Ndombele towards the end of the summer transfer window.

It is now five years since Spurs spent a club-record £63m to sign Ndombele from Lyon in 2019 and one can make a persuasive case that the decision has proven to be the worst transfer move in the North London club’s history.

While the 27-year-old had at least shown glimpses of his quality last season on loan at Napoli, he has failed to have any sort of impact at Galatasaray this campaign, having had to watch on from the bench for much of the campaign.

Over the last few weeks, various outlets have claimed that the Istanbul club will not take up the €15m (£12.8m) option to buy the Frenchman this summer and that the player will return to Spurs at the end of his loan spell (Sporx).

Will Tottenham release Tanguy Ndombele?

Maw believes that Tottenham will end up reaching a settlement with Ndombele and releasing him on a free in the final days of the summer transfer window.

The journalist said on The View from The Lane podcast: “We’ve avoided Ndombele again, here’s how I think this will play out. I reckon they will release him on like the 28th of August, that’s what I reckon.”

Spurs Web Opinion

After Ndombele’s horror show in Turkey this season, I cannot see any club being prepared to pay a fee for him this summer even if he is willing to accept a substantial pay cut. So Tottenham would not have a choice but to reach a settlement and pay off the year left in his contract.
