Journalist predicts Spurs will try to sign PL star again next summer

Dean Jones believes that Tottenham Hotspur will revisit their interest in Anthony Gordon next summer rather than during the January transfer window.

During the summer transfer window, Everton reportedly knocked back efforts from both Spurs (Lyall Thomas) and Chelsea (Sky Sports) to snap up Gordon on the back of his breakthrough season in 2021-22.

Football Insider even reported towards the end of the summer window that Spurs were readying an offer for the winger, who had allegedly expressed a desire to make the move to North London.

However, the 21-year-old stayed put at Goodison Park and has struggled to maintain the same sort of form that he showed last season.

The Sun reported earlier this month that Spurs are mulling over whether to reignite their interest in Gordon when the transfer window reopens in January.

Jones believes that Antonio Conte’s men may revisit their interest in the player next summer, and insisted that the Everton academy graduate is not likely to sign a new contract with his boyhood club unless Frank Lampard’s men show ambition.

When asked if Tottenham will make an offer for Gordan in January, the journalist told GiveMeSport: “I think it will happen next summer.

“Obviously, Everton want to tie him down to another contract and get him secured. But, for the player, he has to map out his own future. If he’s going to stay at Everton, they’ve got to show real ambition between now and May.”

Gordan’s performances this season have left a lot to be desired but one has to take into account that perhaps the youngster’s head has been turned, given the transfer speculation over his future in the summer.

The 21-year-old undoubtedly has the potential to develop into a top player and I expect some of the Premier League’s big hitters to explore a January move for him.
