Journalist predicts Villarreal will face competition to sign Lo Celso from Spurs

Journalist Pete O’Rourke believes that Villarreal could face competition from clubs across Europe for Giovani Lo Celso this summer.

Lo Celso has hardly put a foot wrong since completing a loan move to Villarreal in January and is showing the kind of form he did during his previous stint in La Liga with Real Betis.

The midfielder played a valuable part in helping Unai Emery’s side book a place in the semi-final of the Champions League at the expense of Bayern Munich, putting in a Man of the Match performance in the first leg against the Bundesliga giants.

Football Insider reported earlier this month that the Yellow Submarine have opened talks with Spurs over a permanent deal for the 26-year-old, who is thought to be valued at around £30m by the North Londoners.

The report suggested the North Londoners could even use the midfielder as a makeweight in the deal to land Pau Torres.

O’Rourke has now said that Lo Celso’s recent performances are likely to bump up the Argentina international’s price ahead of the transfer window.

He told GiveMeSport: “It can only be good news for Tottenham if Lo Celso is doing well, it’s going to raise his price tag and it might not just be Villarreal looking to do a deal if Lo Celso continues to shine for them, playing in the Champions League and La Liga, it might bring other teams to the table to sign the Argentine.”

Lo Celso will certainly have plenty of suitors this summer and I expect Spurs to recoup the majority of the transfer fee that they spent on the Argentine. However, the club will likely have a lot more difficulty finding a buyer for Ndombele unless the Frenchman takes a substantial wage cut.
