Journalist provides injury update on Tottenham and Argentina’s Cristian Romero

TyC Sports journalist Gaston Edul has revealed that Cristian Romero is expected to train with the Argentina squad ahead of their match against Italy at Wembley on June 1st.

Romero has outperformed expectations in his first season in the Premier League following a move from Atalanta last summer.

Despite missing a significant portion of the season after picking up a hamstring injury in November, the centre-back was still picked as the signing of the season by Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports’ MNF.

Romero picked up a hip injury in Tottenham’s 1-1 draw at Anfield earlier this month and missed the club’s final three games of the season against Arsenal, Burnley and Norwich as a result.

Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni named the centre-back in his preliminary squad to face Italy in a friendly at Wembley on June 1st, along with Giovani Lo Celso.

Edul has now taken to social media to reveal that Romero is expected to train as normal with the squad.

This is good news as it indicates that Romero’s hip injury is not a severe one. Even if the centre-back aggravates the problem while playing for Argentina, he still has plenty of time to recover over the summer and return fully fit for pre-season.
