Journalist provides update on Cristian Romero’s injury rehabilitation

The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare has revealed that Tottenham’s newest recruit, Cristian Romero is already past the rehabilitation stage after picking up an injury during the Copa America.

Romero signed for Spurs last week on an initial loan deal from Atalanta, with the North London club having the option to make the deal permanent for a £42.5m fee.

The 23-year-old’s addition comes as a welcome boost to the North London club, whose backline came in for plenty of criticism last season.

Nuno Espirito Santo confirmed after Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Arsenal in their final pre-season match on Sunday that Romero had picked up a knee problem in the Copa America final.

The Spurs boss also added that he is in no rush to integrate the centre-back into training.

However, Eccleshare has now provided a positive update on the Argentina international by revealing that he has already completed his rehabilitation.

The journalist did not say when Spurs fans can expect Romero to feature, simply stating that ‘it won’t be too long’ before the defender makes his debut.

This is fantastic news as we were potentially looking at the prospect of a Dier-Rodon pairing for the first few games of the season. While one would not expect Romero to be involved against City, hopefully, he will be available for our trip to Molineux.
