Journalist provides update on Harry Kane’s Tottenham future – ‘He likes’ Conte’s project

Italian journalist Ciro Venerato has revealed that Harry Kane is waiting to see what happens with Antonio Conte before deciding over whether to commit his own future to Tottenham.

Conte put a major question mark over his future in North London last week when he hinted that he might not be the right man to help Spurs turn around their fortunes (Football.London).

It was subsequently reported that some sources at Tottenham do not expect the Italian to be in charge next season (The Athletic).

However, since then, the Spurs boss has himself come out and admitted that his comments after his side’s loss to Burnley were strategic to get a response from the players rather than being down to the emotions of the defeat (Daily Mail).

It has been suggested over recent weeks that Kane is seeking assurances the Tottenham head coach will be backed in the summer before committing his future to the club (The Sun).

Venerato has now shed light on the England captain’s future while speaking about Manchester United’s rumoured interest in Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

When asked if the Red Devils could move for the Tottenham striker instead, the journalist told Area Napoli: “For now, neither, in the sense that Kane also needs a broad examination, because Tottenham are a very rich club and do not need any money, not even the €120m (£100m) that would come from the transfer of the forward.

“The point is that the player is waiting to know Antonio Conte’s future. He likes the Italian manager’s project. Should he leave, Kane might ask to leave too.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I think it is pretty clear by now that Kane is not going to stick around at Spurs if Conte is not here next season.

Even if Conte stays and is backed in the summer, I suspect that the 28-year-old might not be overly keen on signing a new contract with the club after the events of last summer.

So, Spurs might have little choice but to let the striker run his contract down and eventually leave for a cut-price fee.
