Journalist provides update on Son Heung-min injury situation today

PA Sport journalist Jonathan Veal has revealed that Son Heung-min will have further examinations today to determine the extent of his injury.

It was a night to remember for Tottenham in France on Tuesday as they came from a goal down to win 2-1 to seal progression to the knockout stages of the Champions League.

However, the one negative for the North London club was the fact that Son had to come off just before the half-hour mark after clashing with Marseille defender Chancel Mbemba and failing the immediate concussion assessment.

According to reports, the South Korean could miss Tottenham’s clash against Liverpool, with the Premier League’s regulations stating that a player who suffers a concussion must stay away from all football activity for at least six days (Express).

Spurs’ assistant head coach Cristian Stellini said in his post-match press conference that he is not sure whether Son has a concussion (Football.London).

Veal has now revealed that the 30-year-old’s eye was ‘heavily swollen’ last night and that the forward will have further examinations today.

Spurs Web Opinion

If it is an injury to Son’s face rather than his head, perhaps, he will be permitted to play with a face mask as some others have done over recent years. However, I think it is unlikely that the Premier League would allow him to play against Liverpool if it is true that he failed a concussion test on the field yesterday.
