Dutch journalist Mike Verweij has revealed there still remains a gap between Tottenham’s valuation of Steven Bergwijn and what Ajax are willing to offer for the winger.
Bergwijn has already publicly expressed his intention to leave the North London club this summer in search of regular game time (AD) after warming the bench for much of the 2021/22 campaign.
It was reported two weeks ago that Ajax were set to return with a second offer of around £20m including add-ons for the former PSV Eindhoven man after seeing their first offer of around £15m turned down by Antonio Conte’s men (The Daily Mirror).
According to Fabrizio Romano, Spurs want €30m (£25.6m) for the 24-year-old, who is said to be generating a lot of interest around Europe. Crystal Palace and Brighton are said to be among the sides who hold an interest in the Spurs winger (Ekrem Konur).
Verweij has now revealed on De Telegraaf’s podcast Kick-Off that the situation regarding Ajax’s pursuit of Bergwijn has not changed.
He claimed that Ajax’s last offer was worth €17.5m plus €5m in add-ons (£15m plus £4.3m), while Tottenham continue to hold out for €25m (£21.4m).
The Independent’s Miguel Delaney has also claimed that Bergwijn could be used as part of a deal to bring Ajax’s Antony to N17.

I do not think Ajax would have the financial means to offer too much more than they have, which is why I would not be surprised if a Premier League side ends up winning the race for Bergwijn.
Although his opportunities at Tottenham have been limited, the winger has shown enough to suggest that he can be quite effective in the Premier League, and a mid-table club could decide to take a punt on him.
