Journalist provides update on what is holding up Djed Spence move to Spurs

The Daily Mail’s Sami Mokbel has revealed that Tottenham are still not willing to meet Middlesbrough’s valuation of Djed Spence.

After weeks of negotiations between Spurs and Boro for Spence, it seemed like a breakthrough was finally reached this week when The Telegraph reported on Tuesday that the two clubs were ‘edging close’ to an agreement on a fee of £15m plus add-ons.

However, this information was quickly shot down by Football.London, who claimed that the right-back’s move to Tottenham is not close to being completed.

This information has now been backed up by Mokbel, who said on the Last Word on Spurs YouTube channel (starting at 15:20) that, as things stand, there is no agreement in place between the Lilywhites and Boro for Spence.

The journalist stated that Antonio Conte’s men are not willing to match the Championship club’s asking price of £20m for the England Under-21 international.

He explained that Spence is keen on completing a move to the North London club as the talks continue between Boro and Spurs.

Finally, Mokbel added that all it takes is one breakthrough in the negotiations for the dominoes to fall and for the deal to be completed quite quickly.

Spurs Web Opinion

Mokbel’s last point about the dominoes potentially falling quite quickly is an important part to realize.

It is evident that the Tottenham hierarchy are trying to push for the best possible terms, knowing that they could get the deal done in a matter of hours if they wanted.

I remain fully confident that this deal will be concluded before the Spurs squad fly out to South Korea in three days.
