Journalist refutes suggestion Spurs are confident about key player’s future

Journalist Paul Brown has suggested that Tottenham Hotspur are not particularly confident that Harry Kane will put to paper on a new contract with the club.

Kane now has less than 18 months left to run on his contract at Tottenham (Transfermarkt) and multiple outlets have reported over recent months that the striker is on the wishlists of the likes of Manchester United and Bayern Munich ahead of next summer’s transfer window (Sky Sports).

However, over the last few weeks, there have been plenty of promising updates on the 29-year-old’s future at Spurs, none more so that the comprehensive report by Ben Jacobs on Football Transfers last week.

The CBS Sports reporter said that the striker is not likely to exit his boyhood club in the summer if the Lilywhites manage to finish in the top four this season.

He also added that the Spurs hierarchy are ‘quite confident’ about Kane’s situation since the player had made it clear that his preference would be to stay at the club.

However, Brown believes that the situation is not as rosy, suggesting that the striker will make a decision based on how Tottenham fare over the coming weeks and months.

When asked about the chances of Kane committing his future to Spurs, the journalist told GiveMeSport: “I don’t feel like there’s a growing confidence in the Spurs camp that they think he’s going to sign a new deal.

“He certainly has appeared happier at the club over the last few months, but I’m sure from Kane’s position, he’s probably waiting to see how things go really this season before he makes any kind of decision on his future.

“It wouldn’t surprise me at all if there are big clubs bidding for him again in the summer.”

There is no doubt that our form for the rest of the season will have a bearing on Kane’s decision. If we do not finish in the top four and fail to win a trophy yet again, the likelihood is that the striker will have doubts about the direction of the project.

Having said that, there is still a lot to play for this season, and there is no reason to think that we are not capable of finishing the season strongly, just as we did last term.
