Journalist reports English club tried to lure Yaya Toure away from Spurs

It has been reported by journalist Mike Minay that Wigan Athletic were attracted to the idea of hiring Yaya Toure as their new manager.

Toure joined Tottenham during the second half of last season and worked with the club’s academy system at Hotspur Way while he was completing his coaching badges.

However, the former Man City man was handed an official role for the new campaign, becoming Tottenham’s U16 head coach for the 2022/23 season (Tottenham).

It appears that Wigan, who currently play in the Championship, have been impressed by Toure’s talents during his short stint in North London and subsequently showed interest in him becoming the club’s new head coach.

Unfortunately for Wigan, Toure reportedly does not wish to be considered for the role. While he is still working at Spurs and has long-term aims to become a manager, it appears Toure either thinks the time is not yet right, or Wigan are not the best fit for him.

Spurs Web Opinion:

There are two clear routes for Yaya to take. Either stay with Spurs for a couple of years and work your way up the age groups to gain experience. Or cash in on the exposure you now have as a coach and take a full-time manager’s job like Wigan now. I suspect he will go for the former route.
