Journalist reports ENIC are interested in forming link with Standard Liege

Journalist Sacha Tavolieri has reported that ENIC Group, the majority owners of Tottenham Hotspur, are interested in creating a link between Spurs and Standard Liege.

The Belgian club are reportedly amidst a period of uncertainty, with Voetbal Nieuws relaying speculation over a possible manager dismissal and even rumours of a takeover.

Bruno Venanzi, the current chairman of Liege, is allegedly looking for investors as the club are now in a deep crisis. ENIC are reportedly interested, as are the owners of Arsenal and Leeds United.

Tavolieri reports that Pini Zahavi is playing a role in potential negotiations as he is close to Tottenham chairman, Daniel Levy.

In recent years, we have seen Premier League clubs forge links with foreign teams, such as Manchester City and Anderlecht. Tavolieri reports that Man United would welcome the purchase of an overseas club, especially in Belgium, to keep up with City.

It remains to be seen whether this story advances and what a potential partnership between Tottenham and Standard Liege would look like exactly.

Spurs Web Opinion:

This would certainly be an interesting move from ENIC. I assume Liege would become a kind of feeder club for Tottenham, as well as an outlet for young players to go out on loan. Man City have seen some success from their Anderlecht links so maybe this is the way forward.
