Journalist reports Spurs have not given up hope of signing Bastoni or Gvardiol

Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have not abandoned their pursuits of Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni or RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol.

Both Bastoni and Gvardiol were thought to be near the top of Spurs’ wishlist for a left-sided centre-back in the summer (Football.London) but the North London club were not able to get a deal for either player over the line.

The Inter star’s agent declared during the summer that his client wanted to remain at the San Siro (Football Italia), with Antonio Conte’s men snapping up Clement Lenglet on a season-long loan deal instead.

Spurs’ pursuit of Gvardiol appears to have become complicated after the Croat’s impressive showing at the World Cup, with Alfredo Pedulla revealing last month that Manchester City were ready to offer a whopping €130m (£113.5m) for the Leipzig star.

The Daily Express reporter Ryan Taylor said a couple of weeks ago that Tottenham have accepted defeat in their pursuit of the 20-year-old (GiveMeSport).

However, this claim has now been contradicted by Thomas, who said in an interview with Last Word on Spurs’ YouTube channel that both Gvardiol and Bastoni remain top targets for the club.

The journalist suggested that the Lilywhites could reignite their interest in both players next summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Gvardiol is evidently out of our reach as Spurs are not going to get involved in a bidding war with the likes of Manchester City and Real Madrid for the Leipzig star.

Bastoni seems like a more realistic target but it remains to be seen whether the centre-back would want to leave Inter. I suspect Tottenham are looking at the likes of Piero Hincapie and Evan N’dicka as backups to the Italian.
