Journalist reports there are ‘whispers’ key figure could return to Spurs – Not Pochettino

Journalist Dean Jones has suggested that Paul Mitchell could return to Tottenham Hotspur to replace Fabio Paratici in the summer.

Tottenham were thrown into turmoil by the news that Paratici’s 30-month ban from Italian football had been extended globally by FIFA, with the Italian taking an immediate leave of absence pending the outcome of his appeal, which will be heard on April 19.

Since the 50-year-old was reportedly in charge of Spurs’ managerial search (Daily Mail), the development has really put the cat amongst the pigeons at the North London club.

Reports over the last few days have indicated that Tottenham are eyeing Getafe sporting director, Ramon Planes as a potential replacement for Paratici (Fichajes).

Jones has now suggested that Mitchell, who worked as Spurs’ head of recruitment for three and a half years before leaving to join RB Leipzig in 2018, could return to the Lilywhites following the announcement that he would be leaving Monaco this summer.

The journalist added that there is even the possibility that the 41-year-old could reunite with Mauricio Pochettino at Spurs, although he admitted that Daniel Levy has ‘gone slightly cold’ on the idea of re-appointing the Argentine.

Jones told GiveMeSport: “Poch maintains a healthy relationship with Levy and is open to a return but there is a feeling recently that the Tottenham chairman is re-evaluating the positives to such a return.

“He’s gone slightly cold on the idea. In the months leading into Conte’s exit that was not so much the case, with sources stating that it would take Fabio Paratici to come up with a “fail-proof” option in order for Levy not to turn back to his former boss.

“It would be wrong to say Poch is totally out of mind though. If Paratici is to leave Tottenham for good then it could give Poch the scope to have a more over-arching control.

“There are whispers too though that 41-year-old Paul Mitchell, who recently announced he is leaving Monaco in his role as Sporting Director, may even come into the thinking at a high level.

“Nothing yet on that front though, these are early days.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It was widely reported back in 2018 that one of the reasons that Mitchell left Spurs was owing to his frustrations at working with Levy. So, I doubt if the 41-year-old would consider returning to Spurs.

It also does not seem like Pochettino is near the top of Tottenham’s wishlist to replace Conte but things could well change over the coming weeks since Paratici is no longer overseeing the process.
