Journalist reveals Ajax could challenge Spurs for 22-year-old winger

The Daily Mail reporter Tom Collomosse has revealed that Ajax have now entered the race to sign Hull City starlet Jaden Philogene, who is rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar.

Hull have been one of the biggest surprise packages of the Championship this season, with the club currently occupying a play-off spot with 10 matches left to go.

Philogene’s consistent displays have been one of the main contributing factors, with the winger having scored eight goals and provided six assists in 22 league games for Liam Rosenior’s men (Transfermarkt).

It was reported by TEAMtalk last week that Tottenham are one of several top-flight sides looking at the youngster ahead of the summer transfer window.

However, the report also revealed that Aston Villa inserted a £15m buy-back clause for the winger when they sold him to Hull last summer.

Ajax enter race with Spurs for Jaden Philogene

If Collomosse’s latest update is to be believed, Spurs and the other Premier League sides interested in Philogene might have a competition to contend with from Ajax.

The journalist revealed that the Eredivisie giants are now keeping a close eye on the 22-year-old’s progress ahead of the summer transfer window.

While Collomosse also confirmed the existence of Aston Villa’s £15m buy-back clause, he explained that Hull would want a bigger fee for the winger from other clubs.

An increasing number of young, English players are now willing to go to foreign leagues in order to get regular game time and fast-forward their development, and a switch to Ajax could be a tempting prospect for Philogene.

However, the winger will have also seen how youngsters have thrived under Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham and might perhaps be convinced that he could have a similar impact at N17, given the freedom the Australian affords his players to express themselves.
