Journalist reveals Ajax have made an approach for Tottenham player this month

Over the course of the season so far, Jose Mourinho has struggled to find a settled centre-back pairing, with Eric Dier being the one constant at the back for Spurs.

The start of the season saw Davinson Sanchez have a consistent run in the side, but clean sheets were far from plentiful for the Lilywhites. In addition to this, the Colombian defender scored a catastrophic own-goal in the 3-3 draw to West Ham (TransferMarkt).

Such form saw Toby Alderweireld return to the Tottenham side and strike up a pretty formidable partnership with Dier.  The 31-year-old started the opening game of the season against Everton and has made eleven league appearances in total (TransferMarkt).

However, in Tottenham’s most recent win, it was Joe Rodon who partnered Dier at the heart of the defence. The Welshman has been involved five times in the league so far, starting two of them (TransferMarkt).

It has been reported that Spurs could move for yet another centre-back in the near future, with links being made between the North Londoners and Real Madrid centre-back, Eder Militao (Transfer Window Podcast).

It has now been reported that the North London side aim to keep both Alderweireld and Sanchez this month, with Ajax making an approach for the latter.

Speaking on the De Telegraaf podcast, Mike Verweij revealed (as translated by VoetbalZone): “Subsequently, a link was made with the Davinson Sánchez area, whether he was open to it. But Spurs won’t let anyone go; Not Sánchez and not Alderweireld.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

Despite frustratingly throwing away several games this season, Tottenham’s defence hasn’t been a big issue. The club has conceded very little goals from open play so far this season. If errors from set-pieces then faith should be put into the options Mourinho has at his disposal.
